KC Pumper Shows Mixed Results in Brake Tests

A Kansas City (Mo.) Fire Department pumper that struck and killed a 7-year-old boy on March 2 failed its first brake test following the accident but passed two ensuing tests, according to the Kansas City Star.

Pumper 10's four sets of air disc breaks failed a first inspection. Fire Chief Richard "Smokey" Dyer ordered two additional tests by two different vendors after the first test.

Dyer told the press last week that he doubted that stopping distance would have made a difference, but the investigation into the accident is on going.
