Houston Awards Major Contract to Ferrara

Ferrara Fire Apparatus has received a major contract from the City of Houston for 12 new fire apparatus. The new order includes seven Igniter 107-foot aerials, three Igniter pumpers and two Igniter high-pressure pumpers. The total value of the contract is over $7 million. Ferrara has already built 11 pumpers for Houston.

The aerials each feature a Cummins ISM 500hp engine, cab seating for six firefighters and a 107-foot heavy-duty ladder with a 750-pound-rated tip load. The aerials are built on Ferrara’s custom Igniter chassis.

The Igniter pumpers each feature a Cummins ISL 400hp engine, Allison EVS 3000 transmission, Hale Qmax 1,500gpm single-stage pump, 500-gallon water tank and an extended front bumper.

Each of the Igniter high-pressure pumpers features a Cummins ISM 500hp engine, Allison EVS 4000 transmission, Waterous CM 1,250gpm three-stage pump and an extended front bumper.

“We are very proud to have been chosen to build these apparatus for the Houston Fire Department,” said Chris Ferrara, president and CEO of Ferrara Fire Apparatus. “Our goal is to provide the best built fire apparatus with the highest level of customer satisfaction. We work constantly to achieve that goal and it humbles me to see that the Houston Fire Department, one of the nation’s elite providers of fire protection, also recognizes how we go to great lengths to achieve customer satisfaction.”

In addition, Ferrara Fire Apparatus is expanding its Houston service center.
