Freightliner Announces Front-Drive Axle Option

Freightliner announced details of some of its medium-duty trucks for 2007, including a factory-installed front-drive axle option with a low front end suitable for fire and rescue applications.

The Business Class M2-106 model now can be specified with an optional front-driving axle that the driver can engage at speeds at or below 10mph. The axle comes in ratings of 12,000, 14,000 and 16,000 pounds and may be matched with single or tandem rear axles to produce a 4x4 or 6x6 vehicle configuration. The bowl on the front axle is offset 11 inches to the passenger side to provide driveline clearance while keeping the front end low.

The M2-106 with front-drive axle may be specified with Mercedes-Benz MBE900 or Caterpillar C7 engines and a choice of cab lengths including day cab, extended cab or crew cab.
