Florida EVT Association

The Florida Fire Chiefs Association formed the Florida Association of Emergency Vehicle Technicians in 1996 to provide EVTs with the highest level of continuing education and network support.

FAEVT currently has 300 members and hosts its association meeting as part of the annual National Emergency Vehicle Technician Academy. The section council meets quarterly to evaluate and develop training programs for the technician.
During the course of 13 years of training academies, the Emergency Vehicle Technician Certification Commission’s certification exam review courses have been the most popular, followed by the broad range of hands-on training.

The biggest challenge currently facing FAEVT is the budget constraints created by the economy and Florida legislative decision dealing with tax revenues for government entities.  Another challenge is convincing the entities of the necessity of continuing education for the emergency vehicle technician on the increasingly complicated equipment they are maintaining.

The association's annual National EVT Academy is held in May in Daytona Beach, Fla. The week-long program offers more than 30 classes for the technician. EVTCC certification exam reviews are available for all certification tests. In addition to the review classes, the academy offers more than 23 hands-on classes covering a wide range of maintenance areas and vehicles.
