Southwest EVTs a Hit

Students came from Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri and as far away as North Dakota and Canada to attend the Southwest EVT Conference in Fort Worth on March 1-5. A total of 118 emergency vehicle technicians and fire mechanics registered to take classes on subjects ranging from certification refresher courses to air brake systems and anti-lock brakes. Seventy-six students took more than 125 EVTCC exams on the final day of the conference.

The conference was co-sponsored by the Texas Association of Emergency Vehicle Technicians and the Oklahoma Association of Emergency Vehicle Technicians, who have worked together on it for the past five years.

Instructors included Jim Faulkner of Special Equipment Services, Dan Cleveland of Stewart & Stevenson, Gilbert Corona of Bendix, Chuck White of AC Delco and many other well-known maintenance professionals.

During the awards ceremony, Terry Slayton of Tyler, Texas, was awarded the Jim Bland Memorial Award for his unselfish attitude and high degree of professionalism in supporting the goals of the EVT associations.

Online Auction for Used Items

The Florida Fire Chiefs Association has formed a relationship with the GovAssets4sale group to let fire departments buy and sell used apparatus and equipment through an online auction. The procedures are simple, and both the buyers and sellers have a great deal of flexibility in setting conditions and negotiating prices. To view the site, go to www.GovAssets4sale.com.
