Council Exonerates Chief Cox

"The Courier" reports that Bryant (Ark.) fire chief Randy Cox was cleared of all allegations after a two-month investigation. Despite this exoneration, several firefighters still claim no confidence in Cox's ability to manage the fire department. Bryant fire lieutenant Daniel Weger, president of the firefighters union, said that he and many other firefighters will continue to press the issue.

Cox has been chief for nine years. He left on medical leave from February 18 to April 1 after two firefighters he fired returned to duty after receiving permission from city officials. They were reinstated a week after being fired because their actions were found to be legal under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
