National EVT Training Academy Gets Bigger

The Florida Association of Emergency Vehicle Technicians will host its popular National EVT Training Academy in Daytona Beach on May 19–23. This year’s event will feature more EVTCC review courses than ever before.

The academy will be held at the Advanced Technology College. The host hotel is the Hampton Inn Daytona Speedway–Airport for easy access to all activities.

Technicians wishing to prepare for the Emergency Vehicle Technician Certification Commission tests may enroll in one or more of the many review classes covering topics ranging from ARFF to ambulances. Some of the classes cover subjects rarely offered at other training events, including reviews for the EVTCC F-7 Foam Systems, F-8 Hydraulic Systems and FA-4 Advanced Electrical Systems tests. Technicians involved with law enforcement vehicles can review for the L-1 Installer test. Shop supervisors and others wanting to certify their management skills can review for the M-1 Management exam.

Students also can choose from a wide variety of other classes on engines, pumps, hydraulic generators, foam systems, multiplex electrical systems, aerials, brakes and many other topics.

As an added benefit, organizers have arranged several evening events to let everyone relax and get to know each other. Tuesday evening features an informal technical discussion to let participants ask several industry personnel about problems or future developments. Wednesday evening is the big reception and banquet at the Daytona Speedway. Thursday evening is the popular barbeque and buyers’ show with an opportunity to see the latest products from a variety of suppliers.

Those wishing to take one or more EVTCC tests may do so at a special test session. Prior arrangements with EVTCC are required.
