National EVT Academy Scores Another Success

More than 180 emergency vehicle technicians and mechanics registered for classes as part of the National EVT Training Academy in Daytona Beach, Fla., during the week of May 14–18.

This popular annual training event is sponsored by the Florida Association of Emergency Vehicle Technicians and is one of the largest in the country. This year's academy attracted more than 140 full-time registrants and 40 walk-in daily registrants to take a variety of classes ranging from EVTCC review sessions to welding. In one of the classes, students disassembled, rebuilt, re-assembled and successfully tested a fire pump. At the end of the week, 129 people took a total of 193 EVTCC certification and recertification exams.

James K. Heiser, a mechanic from Matlacha Pine Island Fire Control District, was the recipient of the annual EVT Scholarship. He attended the EVTCC F-3 Pumps and Accessories Class and then took the certification exam.
