Detroit Diesel to Offer Series 60 Engines in 2007

Detroit Diesel Corp. reaffirmed its plans to offer the popular Series 60 engines for fire apparatus in 2007. The new engines are expected to have several enhancements to meet the changes in emissions requirements.

Among the expected enhancements are an exhaust after-treatment system that replaces the muffler. This system is designed to reduce particulate emissions and includes a diesel oxidation catalyst and a diesel particulate filter.

The engine's exhaust gas recirculation system will be enhanced with a high-capacity cooler that's more rugged than previous models.

The 2007 models also will include the next generation of electronic controls, called DDEC VI, which are designed to work with new pump controls, called Fire Commander II.
