Detroit Diesel Plans to Leave Fire Market

Detroit Diesel announced that it plans to stop selling engines and other products to manufacturers in the fire-truck market starting in 2010.

In a letter to manufacturers, the company stated “With Daimler AG taking a more dominant position in the overall truck market in North America, a decision has been made to have Detroit Diesel maintain focus with our proprietary Daimler partners to assist in this growth. Therefore, beginning in 2010 Detroit Diesel will no longer be active in the Motor Coach and Fire Truck markets except with those companies that are part of the Daimler family.”

Detroit Diesel is a Daimler AG company, as are Freightliner, Sterling, Western Star and Thomas Bus, among others.
