Danko Introduces Unimog Urban/Wildand Pumper
Danko Emergency Equipment of Snyder, Neb., displayed its Ultimate All-Terrain Urban Interface / Wildland Vehicle at the IAFC show in Dallas. The unit features a Unimog 4x4 chassis for extra load capacity and excellent off-road capability.
The new pumper is equipped with a Waterous hydraulically driven 500gpm single-stage pump with pump controls and connections at the rear of the body. An automatic pump-and-roll features allows the unit to deliver steady discharge pressures under a wide range of operating conditions.
Danko's new wildland pumper features a 500gpm pump, 800-gal tank and compressed air foam system on a compact Unimog 4x4 chassis.
The pump is matched with a Waterous-Pneumax compressed air foam system to increase the unit's firefighting capability. When the pump is working alone, it can produce 500gpm of water at 150psi, 250gpm at 250psi, or 80gpm at 350psi. When the pump is working with the air compressor to deliver compressed air foam, the combined simultaneous ratings are 300gpm of water and 150cfm of air at 125psi to produce a 2-to-1 foam ratio as defined by NFPA. The UPF polypropylene water tank has a capacity of 800 gal to allow extended operations in areas where water supplies are limited.
Other firefighting features include a remote-controlled Akron FireFox monitor on the front bumper, a 2-1/2-in discharge at the rear, two preconnected 1-1/2-in hosebeds and a booster reel with 150 ft of 1-in hose.
The Unimog chassis is standard with four-wheel drive. A central tire inflation system allows the tires to be partially deflated when additional traction is needed on soft or loose soils, then re-inflated when operating on hard surfaces. The cab is heated and air conditioned with seating for three persons.
The approximate overall dimensions of the apparatus are 281 in long, 94 in wide and 120 in high. The compact design and short 154-in wheelbase give the unit a tight wall-to-wall turning radius. The high ground clearance and 26-degree angle of departure allow it to negotiate sharp grade changes and uneven terrain. When operating on paved surfaces, it can travel at highway speeds.
