Broward County Appoints Director, Naples Firefighter Retires

Charles "Chuck" Lanza has been appointed director of the Broward County (Fla.) Emergency Management Division, reports The Westside Gazette. Lanza is the former Broward sheriff's office fire chief, as well as the former director of emergency management for Miami-Dade County. He currently serves as director of emergency services for the Seminole tribe of Florida and will assume his new role on May 5.

After a 23 years of service, six as fire chief, Jim McEvoy will retire from the Naples Fire Department (Fla.) on July 8. McEvoy started with the department in 1985 as a firefighter/EMT, later working as a fire inspector, fire lieutenant, fire training officer, battalion chief and deputy through his career. In 2001, writes Bonitanews, he was named Naples' top firefighter.
