Crimson Fire's Rear-Mount Pumper
When the North Greece Fire Department in Rochester, N.Y., purchased a rear-mount pumper from Crimson Fire, they got an apparatus that is distinguished by its strength, safety, storage, serviceability and style. The short and highly maneuverable pumper gets its strength from the short wheel base and the open box concept. The pump position provides increased visibility and improves operator control, making the apparatus safer to operate. Despite its compact size, the unit has more compartments than a traditional pumper, and its 283 cubic feet of storage is 82 more than larger models. Innovations in design also make the pumper easier to service while maintaining a clean, functional and well-defined style.

The unit also features:

  • Crimson custom chassis
  • 330hp ISC engine
  • 1,500gpm Hale RMC pump
  • 500-gallon water tank
  • Tubular construction mounted on a Vibra-torque system
  • Rear-mount operators panel for better visibility

Darley's AutoCAFS Program Vehicle
This AutoCAFS program vehicle is equipped with a 1,500gpm single-stage pump and a 780-gallon copolymer water tank with integral 25-gallon foam tank. A color-embedded top-mount control panel with poly laminate material controls the pumping system.

Built on a Spartan "Big Easy" four-door custom chassis, the unit is powered by a 330hp Cummins ISC diesel engine coupled to an Allison EVS 3000 automatic transmission. The PolyBilt body is constructed through welding and bending co-polymer sheets. The corrosion-free body features three full-height compartments on each side, all with Robinson roll-up doors. The compartment interiors include adjustable shelves, and rollout trays are available.

Other features on this truck include a pre-connected front bumper discharge supplied by a 220cfm compressed-air foam system, which also supplies foam to the deck gun; a rear 2˝-inch discharge; and the two crosslays. The crosslays are positioned right behind the cab next to the pump operator's walkway platform for safe deployment and easier reloading. A rear right-side slide-in ladder compartment holds a 24-foot two-section, 12-foot attic and 10-foot folding ladder, as well as two pike poles.

The operator panel features Fire Research combination pressure/flow meters on all the CAFS discharges, TankVision water and foam level gauges, and a Darley AutoControl pressure governor for controlling the pump.

Waterous' Advantus
The Waterous Co. manufactures pumps, power take-offs, CAFS and hydrants for the global fire service industry. Most recently the company was credited with developing a revolutionary proportioning system called the Advantus. This cutting-edge proportioner is designed to enhance foam efficiencies for fire apparatus equipped with or without CAFS units.

The Advantus is a sophisticated foam system that maximizes foam delivery using conductivity-based technology. Unlike volume-based systems, the Advantus accurately balances foam concentrate with water by sampling the water and subsequently the foam solution. Regardless of the water supply and foam concentrates being used, the Advantus will make the appropriate adjustments to deliver the most effective and economical foam solution, even in ultra low-flow conditions.

Powering the system is a reliable Wanner Hydra-Cell pump. Highly durable, the pump allows for proportioning of higher-viscosity foam concentrates and prevents damage from corrosion impurities in the concentrate supply. Hydra-Cell pumps also deliver repeatable, accurate output with high efficiency yielded from low power consumption.

Overall benefits from the Advantus can be seen in more economical use of foam concentrate, highly accurate foam solution delivery and a durable construction that protects against corrosion. The Advantus foam system also comes with an exclusive two-year warranty and the best service and support in the industry.
