American LaFrance Announces Major Changes

American LaFrance announced a reorganization of its fire apparatus operations, as well as plans to move apparatus production out of its new facility in South Carolina and lay off workers.

As part of the reorganization, the company created a new Fire Business Unit headed by Jim Eshleman, who was recently promoted to vice president. All fire and rescue apparatus production will be shifted to the company’s existing plants in Ephrata, Pa., and Hamburg, N.Y. Vocational trucks, as well as several pending new vocational business ventures, will continue to be located in the Summerville, S.C., facility.

The company also announced permanent and temporary reductions of employment to secure exit from Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
